Well the lake fishing went to the wind real quick. I was able to get in the water on Saturday morning, and get into 5 fish, (All Bows). Then the wind kicked up, and blew us off the lake. That was it for me! I knew there were Steelhead in Oregon, and I wanted to get back to them. So today, I was on the creek nice and early. First cast of the day was nice little hen. Not more than ten minutes later, another nice little hen. I was able to get into another 7 fish, and land 2 more. It was not to bad, but I am hoping this week will get real good. Also congratulations to Taylor, for getting his first Steelhead on a fly rod today, it was a real nice fight, and a real nice first fish. Here are the pics from today.

Today was one of the most fun filled days I have had on the creek all season. Not because I caught a ton of fish. I did get a good amount though. I was 100% percent today. I landed all seven fish I hooked, and I never lost a rig all day, left with the same fly I started with. What made it the best, was the Matt got into a bunch of fish also. It was great watching my buddy get into some real hot fish. One fish really tore him up good, but he landed it nearly 500 yards down river from the hook up. I got a good video of the next one, but as you will see, my dog was the ultimate demise of getting a good picture. It was just a real fun day. Allot of hookups, and landings, also a nice 12 to 14 pound hen that was in perfect shape. Almost all the fish today were real nice fish. Some dark bucks, but for the most part, bright hens!!. Here are the pics and the video from today. I am leaving for three days to go to lake Lenice again this year, for the trout opener. Hope to get some good pics of Tiger Trout, and Brown Trout. I am doing a special posting in the morning before I leave, I may be making a big mistake by giving out this information, but I really want others to experience the same thrills I do on this creek. Well I slept in today, to regain some strength from the last couple days of fishing. I will go again tomorrow, but after that I will be in Eastern Washington for the Trout opener. Those who have read the entire site, will remember last years trip and pictures. I will be getting something ready for the days that I am gone, so that my Fiance' can post them for me on the days I am gone. Hoping to have something every day that I am gone. i am hopefull to get into some big browns, rainbows, and especially the Tiger trout. I will post pics from tomorrow, if I catch anything from the creek. Also I would like it very much if I could get people to start sending me pics of fish they have been catching in other rivers in Oregon, Washington, and California. Also b-run fish in Idaho would be nice. Please keep it to Steelhead, and maybe the occasional huge king, although Salmon are not something I really care to see pics of. See enough of them cookie cutters in Alaska. Thanks, and I am looking forward to the pics. Please give info on where, when, what equiptment, time of day, and please only current fish caught in the last two days or less, nothing from last year, or even last week. Thanks again.

I don’t know what contributed to the rising water level from Yesterday, but it went up at least 2 inches. The creek was moving at a pretty good pace today, but the clarity was good enough to still spot a few fish here and there. I was able to get into 6 fish today, and landed two of them. One really good nice buck!  Here are the pics from today.

     Today was a great day on the creek. A friend of mine, “Steve”, went down to the creek on Saturday, and saw no fish. The reports he got from the other fisherman, were bleak at best. Seems as though the fish I had in front of me on Friday, all went up river in a hurry.

     My experience on Eagle Creek over the last 20 some years, has been that these fish run in waves, until sometime in late March, when they seem to stack up more and hold all throughout the top mile of the creek. So with this thought, I had a feeling that today was going to bring in another group of fish. I happen to be correct!!. Also the crowds from Friday and Saturday, had been discouraged enough to either stay home, or go to another river.

     When I arrived at the creek today, there was only one other car in the lot. It was a familiar car to me. If you remember a fisherman I talked about 2 weeks ago, “Tom”, whom I had met at the river, and later got together for a day, and did some fishing together. I was happy to only see one other car, and to know that it only held one fisherman. I headed down with high hopes of a good day of fishing.

The first hole held only one fish, that left in a hurry, but just 50 yards down stream, under a Cedar tree, lay 3 nice fish. I was able to liberate some limbs from this tree, and open a casting lane to these fish. First cast in got a bite, and the fight was on. I was standing on the root of a Cedar tree, with about 6 feet of water underneath me. I did not think about what I was going to do if I hooked up under this tree. So what I did, was use the pressure from the fish to hold myself up and balance along the root until I could jump off and get back on the bank. It worked, and I landed the first one. I went back to the root, and 3 casts later, again I was hooked up, and I used the same system to get across the root and to the bank. I also landed this fish. “Then there was one!!”.  It took about twenty casts to this fish, and it was on again, but this fish got me. When I tried to use the pressure to balance with, this fish turned around on me and almost through me back into the water. I got luck, and was just able to keep my balance, but the fish was able get slack, and he was gone. I went down to a hole called the “Log Hole”, where I got into 2 and landed 1 nice fish.

Moving on down the creek, I encountered several fish that I was able to get into. I landed another 2 fish, and released them. I came upon Tom, standing in one of my favorite spots on the creek. I was glad to see Tom had purchased a Fly Rod, and seemed to be pleased with it. He told me that he had hooked up on Wednesday, but quickly lost the fish. I asked how he was doing today, and he had landed a native fish,(That I consequently hooked and landed also 20 minutes later). I was able to spot a couple of fish laying in the tail out of the hole he was fishing, and he went to work on them. I walked down about 30 feet to this rock wall that I really like to fish. I was hooked up in just a couple casts, and I landed this nice little male. I was able hook and land another fish just minutes after the first one, it was the Native Tom landed before. Then came the “YeeHaaww” from Tom, and he was hooked up with a nice fish. It was a great fight, almost got rapped on rocks, but Tom controlled the fish beautifully, and landed it like a pro. It was great to see him get em’ on the Fly Rod! After this, I hooked with 3 more fish and landed 2 of them. So it was a great day to be Fishing!!!

Well I took a couple of days to write about Friday. I lost so many fish I stayed home on Saturday to cool off. I am not going to get into exactly how many I hooked, not only to keep people from thinking I am lying, but also not to make those of you that were out on Friday feel bad if you had a tough day. I will say, it was over “20”, (Well over 20). It was a great day for hook ups, but I was only able to land 1 fish the entire day. The day started out with two fish hooked in the first couple minutes, then I think it was a fish on just about every ten minutes, until the last hour, when I got into several fish, in just about the same amount of casts. The water was a perfect color, and the fish were on the attack. Several holes that Matt and I stopped to fish, took just one cast a piece to hook fish. It seemed that if I saw a fish I was able to get a strike in less than three casts. Some of these fish actually traveled more than ten feet to hit the fly. It was great fishing, but the landing sucked.

Today was suppose to be me and another fisherman, that I met last year, during the trout opener at Lake Lenice. Seems as though Todd came own with the flu, so I went at it solo, not even my dog went today. Indy stayed home due to the rain. She got real wet and cold the day before, so she refused to get out of bed this morning. I was expecting the river to be high and muddy, but instead it was still high, but had cleared up real nice. I did not see allot of fish moving through the creek though. I was positioned in an area that had a very good view of anything moving up stream. I saw only a few fish move through, a total of five to be exact. These five fish moved up and sat in front of me the entire morning, so the fish are holding up in this high water, which means as soon as it starts to drop, they will haul fin upstream. I was able to get into four fish and land two of them, before the water started to rise even more. There were two fish today that drove me crazy. These two fish positioned themselves under some branches that were hanging down into the water. Just the tips of the braches were in the water, but the fish were directly underneath them. I tried for hours to get these fish, and all I did was lose 8 flies on that dang tree. This is the first time I can remember, that I was not able to get fish that I could see. If the water was just an inch lower I could have drifted under and into those fish, but it was not to be. Here is the pics from today.

Well the water went way up today. Maybe 9 inches, and turned a chocolate brown. I can’t believe this little bit of rain could cause this to happen, but it did. I was able to get into four fish today, before the water went brown, but after that it was over. Here are the pics from today, also I am a gluten for punishment, so I will go again tomorrow in hopes that the water will clear a bit tonight.

It’s about time!! Today the water level was on the rise, and the fish were on the move. I saw more fish in the first hour today, than I have in total the entire year. I was able to get into about 20 or more fish today, and landed a meager 7 fish, but what a day I had. I saw fish from the first minute to the last today, I am very excited about the next two weeks. The rain is suppose to hit good tonight, so I am hoping they are wrong and the rain will just hit in small spurts throughout the next week. The creek came up about 3 inches today while I was fishing, but stayed relatively clear. The rain has stopped for now, and I am thinking I have one more good day if the rain does come, before it may blow out. Here are the pics from today.
