First day with Brian and son Ryan back on the Situk.

I have some posts I need to put up with some great clients I had last week, but I have to to do this one now. I had to go to town to do this one because of internet problems. Had a great walk up river and some great shots. Brain, Ryan, and I really got into some nice steelhead today. They are jumping and running like mad now with the water temps being up in the 40’s. There was also a nice Sockeye on the menu tonight. They are not really showing, but a very few around. Here are the pics from today.

Not from Yakutat, but I had to throw this pic in. Rob is taking bets on the winner. Shrimp fighting? Who would have ever thought it would come to this. LOL. Good looking shrimp Rob. Looking forward to seeing you this winter.

Well the fall backs are everywhere now, and the fresh ones just keep on moving in. The rain is back, and the fish are starting to show signs of going on the bite again. I had a couple great guys in the boat today. They are both pilots, and both a lot of fun to be around. Fishing was not slow, but not really booming either. The total count for the day was 2 for 7, with a couple other misses. Not to bad for  a couple rookies. Here are the pics from the day.

Fishing was not off the hook last week, but there were fish to be had. The return of Creighton and Bill is always a good time. We got into several fish, and fished hard for four days. The water is now dropping fast, and there are lots of  fresh fish still coming in everyday. The drop back Steelies are bunching up now, and the hens are feeding on everything in site. Sun the last two days have killed the bite, but rain in the future will turn it back on.  Here are the pics and also pics from a couple other of Yakutat lodge’s clients in the last week. If you have the time to get here, now is a great time to be at Yakutat Lodge. The fish are everywhere, new ones coming in still, and the sockeye are going to show anytime now. There are openings this next two weeks for any one that can make it up, the fish and the river will have no pressure.

I have seen two Sockeye so far, and I am looking forward to the big groups coming in any day now.

It has been great fishing. Bud Gore ended up with over 25 fish to the boat in five days. Also a client (Tom), got into some nice fish and brought one to the boat. I have also has OJ Saito for two days, with only one 37 to the bank, but well over double digits worth of hook ups.

We have a new guide this year, Tom and I were able to go down the river and I got to see him get his first Situk Steelie. A nice 34” egg wagon, fresh from the salt.

I have had a chance to get out fish here and there, but tonight I really got the chance, and took full advantage of it. I have been seeing fish in one particular spot now for about a week, and a day ago I was able to get 3 out of there. Well tonight I got out and really had the opportunity to get some fishing in. I went straight back to that spot and starting whacking them good. I ended up with a total of 21 out of 38 to the bank in about 2 1/2 hours. Not to shabby. Everyone I caught tonight had sea lice and were pretty damn hot!. I really had a good time. Here are the pics. I got 16 on film and the other five got out of hand before the camera went off. Those that know me will notice I purchased a new Loop Fly Reel. Made in Sweden I think, but it is awesome, (Better be for seven bills new).

First time out!
